Our Vision
A football system where the care given to a players development is matched equally by the care given to their departure.
No young person steps away from playing professional football without a structured pathway forward, where the years of commitment, sacrifice and hard work they have given to the game are matched by a genuine investment in what comes next.
We exist to remove the cliff edge — to make the transition from professional sport into a professional career a positive step forward into something new.
Awareness that rewarding careers, meaningful work and real progression are a realistic and achievable next chapter.
We exist to make a supported, purposeful next step the expected standard for every player who comes through the academy system and steps away from playing football.
Underpinned by a close personal network of employer partners who share our vision — organisations that genuinely recognise the value these individuals bring to the workplace, and who are committed to giving them the environment and opportunity to prove it.
Our Mission
To build purposeful futures for young people released from professional football academies — helping them rediscover their identity, rebuild their confidence, and channel the discipline, resilience and dedication forged in elite sport into long-term personal and professional success.
The skills developed inside the academy system are not left behind. They are among the most transferable and valuable qualities any employer can find. Our job is to work with each person to find the pathway that suits them best, and to support them through the transition of making a new career meaningful and rewarding.
We know that a release from a football academy involves the whole family. Parents, siblings and partners have sacrificed time, money and energy alongside the player for years. The Phoenix Foundation supports the entire family through this transition, so that nobody feels alone in navigating what comes next.
For Players & Families
We are the structured next step — people who are genuinely in your corner. We are an independent organisation, who take the time to understand the individuals we work with and their families. Helping you match interests, skills and ambition with a pathway that adds long term purpose. The goal is to open the right door and prepare people to be ready to walk through it. We stay as a resource even after placement.
For Employers
We are a trusted pipeline built on honest relationships. We take the time to understand exactly what you need at entry level — the attributes, the culture, the long-term pathway so these people add value for years. Every candidate we bring to you has been matched with real care and precision. The closer the relationship and the more open the lines of communication are, the better every match becomes. We want every placement to work first time, and to reflect the depth of work that has gone into making it.
For Football Clubs
We are the upgrade to your aftercare provision that your players deserve. We recognise that clubs work hard to support players at the point of release and that the people involved genuinely care. But the support currently available is largely informational — guidance, signposting, and good intentions. What The Phoenix Foundation adds is something real and tangible: a structured next step into aspirational careers, rewarding professional environments, and roles with genuine scope for progression and promotion. We work alongside your existing aftercare, adding a meaningful new dimension to what you can offer every player who leaves your academy.
Our Values
The Start Of A New Chapter
Stepping away from professional football is the start of a new chapter not the end of the story. The people we work with carry years of elite experience, discipline and a hunger to succeed that does not disappear when stepping away from playing football. That is an extraordinary foundation to build a career on, and we help people see it that way from the very first conversation.
Bespoke Approach
Before we think about employers, we think about the person. We take time to understand who you are, how you work, what drives you and where you are most likely to thrive. Our objective is to place people properly the first time — building a match that is genuinely right for the candidate and genuinely right for the employer. We measure success not by the number of introductions we make, but by the quality and longevity of the relationships that follow.
Honest, Independent & In Your Corner
We are an independent organisation, and the conversations we have with the people we work with are private. That matters, because it means you can be completely honest with us — about your concerns, your ambitions and what you actually want from the next chapter. The advice we give is built entirely around your best interests, and we will always tell you the truth about what the journey ahead looks like and what it will take.
Prepared, Not Just Introduced
This works both ways. Every candidate we work with is prepared specifically for the role and employer they are being introduced to — understanding the company, the culture and what will be expected of them from day one. And every employer receives a candidate who has been matched with genuine care and briefed on what makes them exceptional. When we make an introduction, both sides of the room are ready for it.
You Are Not Alone In The Room — Or After It
We stay involved throughout the process — supporting you through conversations with employers, helping you navigate decisions, and making sure the people on the other side of the table understand exactly what you bring. And when the placement is made, we do not disappear. We remain a resource you can come back to at any point, whether that is a month after starting or years into a career. The relationship does not end with a job offer.
The Long View
We measure success in careers built, not CVs sent. The relationships we build are long-term ones — with candidates, with employers, and with the clubs we partner with. Short-term placements that do not last are not success. We are invested in what happens years down the line.
Sport Gives Back
The academy system has shaped some of the most resilient, determined and high-performing young people in the country. Our job is to make sure the world outside football sees that — and that the next generation of employers understands the extraordinary asset they are getting when they open their doors to these candidates.
